Auspiciously exploring his bluegrass/gospel roots on Heaven, his first album in years, country-rock veteran Douglas Dillard (Illinois) goes a long way toward filling the gap left by the death of the similarly styled Gram Parsons. Lively banjo parts and rich harmony vocals permeate the program, which disappoints only by clocking in at a mere 26:39. That’s not much music for your money, but if you’re an aficionado of Dillard’s emotive genre, one listen should put you in a forgiving mood. Jeff Burger
